  • Is optic neuritis hereditary?

I have optic neuritis. I worry if my baby will also suffer optic neuritis? Is it hereditary?

  • #2
Optic neuropathy more generally describes optic nerve abnormalities or damage, including from causes such as blocked blood flow or toxic exposure. Causes of optic neuritis are various. Nutritional deficiency, such as b12 deficiency may cause optic neuritis , and eye infections. However, it is hardly due to hereditary. If you really suspect that your baby may suffer optic neuritis, you should take your baby to see a doctor and receive eye exam. Optic neuritis has a deep negative effect on eye sight and vison. Plus, intravenous (IV) steroids, oral steroids or placebo are the latest and effective treatment options for optic neuritis.

All right, I can see that you have got such terrible disease with your eyes, which would make you suffer dramatic drop in your vision. However, it is believed that optic neuritis would not be transmitted to your offspring, so you can take it easy. Just try to protect your baby's health and make sure your baby grows up in a good and healthy environment.
