What's blind spot in the back of the retina?

I heard that each of our eyes has a small blind spot in the back of the retina. What's that? Will it cause damages to our eyes?

Yes, our eyes have small blind spots in the back of the retina where the optic nerve attaches. Each of our eyes has one blind spot. Usually we won't notice them because our eyes can work together to fill in the blind spots.

Don't worry. They won't do great damage to your eyes. Have you found any hole in your vision when you open your eyes? Can you find a hole in your vision if you close one of your eyes? I guess you can't because I also can't find that. So the blind spots won't do any harm to your eyes. And we seldom notice them.

A blind spot can be called scotoma. It is an obscuration of the visual field. The optic nerve passes through the optic disc. But if there is lack of light-detecting photoreceptor cells so a part of the field of vision is not perceived. As to normal person, their brains interpolate the blind spot based on information and surrounding detail from the other eye. That's the reason why blind spot is not normally perceived.
