Why do wear glasses to watch a solar eclipse?

I am just wondering. Why do so many people wear glasses to watch a solar eclipse? Are they nearsighted?

So, as a matter of fact, I used to be puzzled by this question, and later on I realized that the lights of the sun is so strong that direct exposure of your eyes to the sunshine could give rise to a dramatic decrease in your vision, and maybe a pair of burned eyes, even lead to blindness. Anyway we must wear some sunglasses to resist those lights . Of course they are not necessarily nearsighted, but they want to enjoy better and safer.

Well, of course, you should wear a pair of special glasses when you watch the solar eclipse, for the sunlight can damage your eyes. And there is nothing to do with the near-sight or not.
