  • Which nutrient is needed for good eyesight?

I am a child. I like watching TV very much. But my parents told me watching TV is not good for our eyesight. I want to protect my eyesight. Can you tell me what kind of nutrient my eyes will need?

Kid, there are many ways to protect your eyesight. Nutrient such as lutein helps to protect the eyes from oxidative stress and high-energy light. But I know that you may not understand what lutein is. In other words, eat dark, green, leafy vegetables such as spinach and collards can help your eyesight. So don't be a pickiest eater.

Vitamin C is necessary for growth and development. It can reduce the risk of cataracts (a kind of eye disease). It is found in orange juice and many fruits. So eat more fruits every day, kid. Vitamin E helps to prevent cataracts too. It can delay the macular degeneration. Those foods are rich in vitamin E such as nuts, peanut butter, sweet potatoes. I hope you will like them, because all of them are rich in nutrient that will help our eyesight.

Research suggests that antioxidants and other important nutrients may reduce your risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. Specific antioxidants can have additional benefits as well; for example, vitamin A protects against blindness, and vitamin C may play a role in preventing or alleviating glaucoma.

Omega-3 essential fatty acids appear to help the eye in a variety of ways, from alleviating symptoms of dry eye syndrome to guarding against macular damage
